Will showcase much of its product line, including Preservative-Free Pita/Flatbreads, at PLMA’s 2019 World of Private Label Show in Amsterdam

Paterson, New Jersey – May 20, 2019 –Making its first exploratory foray into the private label industry in international markets, Kontos Foods, Inc., a U.S.-based manufacturer and distributor of traditional artisan breads and Mediterranean specialty foods, will be traveling to Amsterdam for the Private Label Manufacturers Association (PLMA) 2019 International Trade Show. The show takes place at the RAI Exhibition Centre in Amsterdam; May 21-22. Kontos Foods will be exhibiting in the RAI Europa Complex / Hall 2.1, booth F-3735.

Kontos Foods will be displaying its full line of manufactured products, including a preservative free flatbread that can rest ambient for up to 90 days. They will also be showcasing their full lineup of 60+ flatbreads, Fillo Dough and Baklava pastries, as well as their newest item, Toasted Tidbits™, made from sliced Kontos’ signature GYRO Bread, toasted into delicious Tidbits™. Featured flatbreads will include Kontos Pocket-Less Pita®, Greek Lifestyle Flatbread®, Gyro breads, grilled Panini breads, All-Natural, French-Style Crepes, and other ethnic flatbreads. Fillo dough, which comes in varying thicknesses, as well as Kataifi dough, will also be available for viewing and sampling.

Kontos flatbreads come in a variety of flavors and styles, perfect for retail private label use:
Gyro Bread – This bread is ‘pre-oiled’ for easier handling and requires a minimal amount of heating to become extremely flexible.
Grilled Panini Bread – This oval bread is ‘pre-grilled’ for convenience; you do not need a Panini Press to achieve that delicious Panini look.
Massala Nan – A blend of fresh chopped hot chili and onions with ethnic spices create this wonderfully flavorful oval flatbread.
Lavash – The perfect ‘roll-up’ flatbread! This soft and pliable 9 by 11-inch rectangular flatbread rolls in both directions. Because it is yeast based, it will absorb moisture and not fall apart.
Greek Lifestyle Flatbread – A hand-stretched flatbread with 2x protein, 1/2 carbohydrates, and less sugar and calories than other traditional flatbreads.

More than 2,600 companies will be exhibiting at the PLMA, including 60 national and regional pavilions. Products on display will include fresh, frozen and refrigerated foods, dry grocery, and beverages as well as non-food categories.

This is the first time Kontos Foods has attended the PLMA show; it currently has no plans to private label domestically, instead explore select international private label opportunities. “We’ve been methodical in developing products that we know will do well in Europe, such as our preservative-free flatbread,” said, Steve Kontos, president and owner of Kontos Foods. “This bread is really a breakthrough product for us,” he added. “European customers in particular are demanding this, and we worked hard to source ingredients and develop a flatbread that maintains our high standards of quality.”

And while this show has overlapped with the National Restaurant Show in Chicago (May 18-21), Kontos said he felt that it was important to attend both shows. To the PLMA Show, Kontos said it’s sending the company’s Marketing & Business Development Director and Director of Production and Quality, he explained. “These individuals are well versed in foreign retail market needs, customs and food and safety standards overseas,” Kontos said. “This is a good way for us to stick our toe into the private labeling industry and see if it’s a good fit for us.”
